The Facebook app keeps Facebook right on your browser with no need for you to navigate to the Facebook website. If you still cannot access your e-mail account, clear your browser's cache. It is perfectly safe to add your account details to the E-mail Notifier.The very first time you log in, you will see an additional dialog that asks you to allow access to Facebook.
